Scuba Diving for Certified Divers

St Lucia's newest independent full service PADI Resort Dive Center

This page provides the information that certified divers usually ask. It will tell you about our morning two-tank and afternoon one-tank boat dives, night dives and the St. Lucia "Thing", our top quality rental dive equipment, digital photography courses, required documentation, recommended Insurance and comfort items that you will need to dive with Scuba Steve's in St. Lucia.

If you are not a certified diver (yet!) and would like to learn to scuba dive or prefer to go snorkeling, please click HERE to be redirected to the Beginners page.

We know that whilst you are on vacation your time is precious and you don't want to waste it washing your equipment and humping it around between your resort and our Dive Centre. As a full service Dive Centre, we take care of YOU and YOUR EQUIPMENT. When we return from the dive, all you need to do is to get off the boat. We will dismantle your equipment, sanitise it and store it for you after each dive. Next time you dive, your equipment will be assembled and waiting for you on the boat, we call this "set it and forget it"!.

Your comfort and safety are our priorities

At Scuba Steve's, we believe that your safety and enjoyment are our priorities. We want you to enjoy the kind of diving experience that we would want if we were on vacation. We are owner operators and we dive daily with you, the client, to make sure that standards are kept high. We have a wealth of experience diving St. Lucian waters and we are sure that this will enable us to offer you the opportunity to dive, within the limits of you experience, the most exciting and exhilerating sites on offer in St. Lucia. At Scuba Steve's we go the extra mile to make sure you have a great time.

Boat Dive Trips

Each day we schedule a morning two-tank boat dive exclusively for certified divers on our own 30 foot custom dive boat. The morning dive trips visit St. Lucia's premier dive sites. Dive profiles vary, but we always try to give you good long dives. At Scuba Steve's we do not believe in ending dives after 35 minutes if everybody still has plenty of air, after all, we like to dive too! The two-tank dive trips depart from the Dive Centre at 09:00 and return between 12:30 and 14:00 according to which dive sites we visit. Unlike some other Dive Centers in St Lucia, we do not waste your whole day with a two-tank dive, you WILL be back on time.

Each afternoon we schedule a one-tank dive for beginners and certified divers. The trips depart at 15:00 and visit shallower dive sites at the north end of the island, returning by approximately 16:30.

Our one and two-tank dives include free transport in our air-conditioned mini-bus to and from the dive centre for clients staying north of Castries, use of tanks, weights, mask, fins and snorkel. If you require a BCD, Regulator or Wetsuit, these are available for hire at a nominal charge. For prices and details of certified diver packages and equipment hire, please see the Rates & Courses page.

Boat Dive Trips

Because at Scuba Steve's we are concerned about your comfort and safety, if you have not dived in open water within the last six months, we may ask that you participate in a refresher dive with an Instructor to familiarise yourself with the local diving environment and to refresh your dive skills.

Underwater Photography

We are keen underwater photographers so we understand and always try to accommodate, the special requirements of photographers on every dive. At the Dive Centre, we have the latest state-of-the-art photo printers allowing you to save your images directly to a CD and/or print high quality borderless images in popular sizes right up to A4 (210mm x 297mm). The printers will read most memory card formats or "talk" straight to any PictBridge or USB DIRECT-PRINT compatible digital camera without the need for a computer (don't forget to bring your camera's USB lead!).

We also run a Digital Underwater Photography speciality course if you would like to take your photography one stage further. This course includes use of our computer for image editing and printing. If you don't have your own digital underwater camera we have a Sea & Sea DX3000 with strobe and wide-angle lens available for hire (hire included in the Digital Photography course price).

We would like to thank Marcus Joseph (www.starfishproductionslc.com) for providing some of the photographs on this website. Marcus works with us and is an expert underwater Videographer. At your request Marcus will dive with you and capture that special moment (maybe your first open water dive?) for you to treasure.

Night Boat Dives and the St. Lucia "THING"

St. Lucia has some great Night dives. You will see many creatures 1 on a night dive that you just won't see during the daytime. At night, Lobsters, Crabs (some larger than dinner plates), Octopus, Squid, Cuttlefish, Moray Eels etc. are all common sightings. If you are really lucky, you may even get to see the famous St. Lucia "Thing".

The "Thing" is St. Lucia's answer to Scotland's infamous Loch Ness Monster, with one major difference.......it actually exists!!! In reality, it is not an enormous relic of the Dinosaur age, but a Millipede type creature which can grow to several feet in length and is VERY quick, VERY shy, and hard to spot. Once it sees divers around, it will vanish into cracks in the rocks, but is often sighted regardless of its shyness and speed.

For a truly colourful display, try sitting on the sandy bottom with your buddy and turning off your dive lights. When your eyes have become accustomed to the darkness, wave your hands around and you will be amazed at the colourful display caused by the bio-luminescent creatures you have disturbed. Night Boat Dives (single tank), will run on any evening as long as we have at least four divers on the trip, and are great fun. If you would like to take your night diving one step further, why not enrol on our Night Dive Speciality course.

Rental Dive Equipment

Our top quality rental dive equipment was all new for 2006 (with additions late in 2006 and in April 2007) and consists of the latest Scubapro regulators including a 2 gauge console with your choice of either 6000psi/200ft or 400Bar/60M pressure and depth gauges. Our BCD's are all Scubapro "Safari" or "Pilot" BCD's. We have a comprehensive range of Procella Men's, Women's and Children's 3mm shorty wetsuits as well as a wide variety of fins, masks and snorkels to fit virtually everybody. All our regulators, masks, snorkels and wetsuits are sanitized between users. We also hire digital underwater cameras. Please see the Rates and Courses page for Rental Equipment prices. Please note, that if you are taking a course, all diving equipment required for the course is included in the price including a wetsuit.

Required Documentation

It would be helpful if you could bring the following documentation with you on your first day of diving to enable us to complete the necessary documentation prior to your first dive with us and to avoid unnecessary delays.

      • Diver certification card. (If you have lost it and are PADI certified, we can check your certification online).

      • Log book (most recent one please).

If you would like to take a course whilst you are diving with, us PADI standard's require you to complete the PADI Medical Statement (download HERE). Please note that this is not required for EFR or DSAT Gas Blender courses, or for any course that does not involve in-water training. Please read the form carefully and if you have to answer YES to any of the questions you will need to have the form signed by a suitably qualified Doctor to state that you are medically fit to Scuba Dive before you arrive. Please note, Medical Doctors cannot certify themselves medically fit to dive by signing their own forms.

Diving Medical Expenses Insurance

Because we care about your comfort and safety we feel duty bound to make you aware of the following information for your safety and guidance: -

Unlike many European countries where it is mandatory for divers to have Diving Medical Expenses Insurance, it is not mandatory for divers visiting St. Lucia. Our dive centre and staff carry full Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance, however, this does not cover the personal medical expenses of our clients. (This insurance is not available to dive centres in St. Lucia).

You are strongly advised to make sure that your travel insurance covers medical treatment expenses related to scuba diving, (many plans exclude scuba diving), specifically, the cost of re-compression treatment. If you are unsure, annual Diving Medical Expenses Insurance can be obtained quite cheaply from Divers Alert Network (DAN). In our opinion, every diver should have this insurance, which is already mandatory for divers in many parts or Europe.

Comfort items

The sun in St. Lucia can be very strong. Although our boat has over 20 feet of covered deck area, please remember to bring your Sun screen with you on the boat. If you will be using one of our BCD's and are not wearing a wetsuit, please remember to bring a "T" Shirt to dive in. (This prevents your Sun screen from contaminating the BCD).

If you suffer from motion sickness, please take your medication at the appropriate time BEFORE the boat departs. You may also wish to bring a towel and sunglasses etc.

Please remember even though you are on vacation, to consume alcohol in moderation if you are going diving. We reserve the right to refuse to dive anybody who in our opinion, is unfit to dive.
