Begin Diving – General information for first time divers.
St. Lucia is a great place to try scuba diving for the first time with safe warm waters offering year round access to some of the best scuba diving in the Caribbean. To join the fun you need to be at least 8 years old, able to swim, and fit to dive. If diving isn’t for you, why not join one of our daily snorkeling trips? Children aged 8 – 9 can enjoy real scuba diving by joining in a PADI Bubblemaker experience!
Many people mistakenly believe learning to scuba dive means spending days in a classroom. This is not true! Scuba Steve’s offer a half-day PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience (Resort Course), which includes two dives in the sea. It’s great for holiday divers. You can make extra dives with us after your initial Resort Course and we even offer a discount on an upgrade to an entry level PADI certification if you enjoyed the dives so much you want to get PADI certified! If you are with a group of family/friends, some of whom are certified divers, we can organise things so that you can all dive together if you wish. If any of your group are snorkellers, they can snorkel above the divers.
You can start an entry level PADI Certification Course without completing a Resort Course first, and many people do just this. Entry level PADI Diver Courses (PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver or the Junior versions for children aged 10 – 14), can be earned in as little as one part-day (excluding self study), and are available all year round. Please visit the “Get PADI Certified” page for information and prices.
We train you with care and pride so that you dive safely and with confidence.
At Scuba Steve’s we pride ourselves in producing certified divers who can look after themselves and their dive buddies safely and with the confidence that is achieved only by thorough training. We offer a complete range of PADI courses for beginners, from a single scuba dive experience up to the internationally recognised certification of Open Water Diver.
PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors), is the largest diver organisation in the world and PADI diver certifications are recognised worldwide. PADI courses are set apart from their competitors by their superb diver education techniques and well designed course materials which make learning to dive easy, safe and fun.
We take no short cuts with our training. You will be trained to the highest standards by our experienced PADI Instructors passionate about the sport of diving and your safety and enjoyment. We progress at your own pace with flexible scheduling to make the most of precious vacation time. Class sizes are small, often with just one or two people (you and your buddy!) at no extra cost. Family groups are especially welcome at Scuba Steve’s.
Getting PADI Certified
It is easy and fun earning your PADI Diver Certification and you can do it in a little as one or two part days. Many people who try a Resort Course first, decide to upgrade and get certified. The good news here is that the Resort Course can credit towards the PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver Certification saving you time and money!
For information and pricing of Certification Courses please visit the Get PADI Certified page.
The price of all our courses includes the use of the latest top quality diving equipment, boat transport to and from dive sites, transport to/from your Hotel/Guesthouse (north of Castries), personal course materials such as manuals, log books, dive-tables and CD/DVD’s for you to use during the course and to keep for future reference after the course finishes. The cost of your diver certification card (where applicable) is also included. There are no hidden extras.
We are confident that we have the most competitive course prices and offer the best value for money anywhere in St. Lucia, if you discover any different, please talk to us first.
At Scuba Steve’s we live to dive, and we think that after you experience the thrill of taking your first breaths underwater our enthusiasm for the sport we love will rub off on you, and you won’t be able to wait for your next diving adventure.
Diving Medical Expenses Insurance
Your comfort and safety are top of our list or priorities so we feel duty bound to make you aware of the following for your guidance:
Unlike many European countries where it is mandatory for divers to have Diving Medical Expenses Insurance, this is not so in St. Lucia. Our dive centre, dive boat and staff carry full Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance, however, this does not cover the personal medical expenses of our clients. (This insurance is not available to dive centres in St. Lucia).
You are strongly advised to make sure that your travel insurance covers medical treatment expenses related to scuba diving, (many plans exclude scuba diving), specifically, the cost of re-compression treatment. If you are unsure, annual Diving Medical Expenses Insurance can be obtained quite cheaply from Divers Alert Network (DAN). In our opinion, every diver should have this insurance, which is already mandatory for divers in many parts or Europe.
